Yoga in Honor of Black History & Black People

  • Sacred Ally South 1st Street West Missoula, MT, 59801 United States (map)

In honor of Black History Month and with the deep acknowledgement that racism is a white people’s problem, Erin Anderson, CEO Eadem Arbor MA, is hosting a community Yoga event with the clear intention to acknowledge the system - that our ancestors built that we as white-bodied people have all been born into, and have benefited from. This class is rooted in the deep honesty of the -isms. She believes all of the “-isms” are born out of white supremacy, and that no person is immune to the dis-ease that it has created in our bodies, minds, communities, and on Earth. This fact must be acknowledged on both cellular and social levels.

This class is also rooted in a deep awareness of our bodies, and our intentions to repair and release feelings of guilt and shame. In this class intentions of reparation and release are paired with somatic movement, breath, and suggested actions to heal, atone for, and repair damages that have been done to build a peaceful, loving, anti-racist, and liberated world.

This is a 90-minute class. The class will begin with breath, gratitude, and grounding, followed by intention setting and Yoga flow. We will end with a 20-minute meditation and journaling session (please bring your journal) of commitments to ourselves in the continuation of learning and healing.

The suggested cost for the class is $35, but folks are not restricted to either side of the dollar amount. BIPOC individuals are invited to join at no cost. All proceeds will go directly to the MT BIPOC mutual aid fund.

All people are invited to join this class. The breath, meditation, and Yoga Flow is designed to benefit all bodies. Much of the spoken content and conversation will be directly focused on what white-bodied people can be doing to be more honest with ourselves to deepen our own healing journey and yoga practice, be clear with our intention, and move forward collectively to create true impact in our families and communities.

We hope to see you there.
