The Alchemy of Autumn

Qi Gong for the Fall

The Qi Gong for Fall Workshop is designed to help you align with the energy of autumn, a season of transition and letting go. We’ll focus on gentle movements and breathwork to boost immunity, balance your body’s energy, and release stagnant emotions. Fall often highlights grief and sadness. As we learn to work receptively with these emotions, they can begin to turn into courage and even inspired confidence, which helps improve immune function. This is part of the wonderful alchemy the Metal element has to teach us.

Fall represents the Metal element, the season of the lungs and large intestine. Chinese medicine teaches us to prepare for the coming winter by learning to spend time building up Qi inside our whole systems. By embracing the cooling and descending energies of fall, you learn to support your lungs, strengthen your body, and foster emotional clarity. This is ideal for anyone looking to stay healthy and emotionally centered during seasonal changes, providing tools to help you cultivate inner balance with improved immunity and well-being. This workshop is perfect for all levels of experience.

What to Expect:

  • Introduction to Taoist 5 Element philosophy, medicine, & Qigong with

their rich treasury of healing & longevity practices, especially as they

relate to the season we are in

  • Guided movement exercises including breath work, stretching, sound,

and flow sequences for health and enhanced vitality relating specifically

    to the Fall season

  • Experience the circulation of Qi (life force energy) in your meridians and

primary energy centers to ignite circulation, enhancing your ability to be

present in the moment while connecting wholeheartedly to self and

    others

  • Practice the Taoist Healing Sounds and Inner Smile meditation to help let

go of the past and cultivate loving kindness and compassion for

    ourselves and others

Qigong comes from ancient traditions bringing a relatable workout for modern times that is deeply relaxing while enjoyable to practice. It tonifies & strengthens the whole human system with a kind of down-to-earth practicality that is in full partnership balance with the heavens above.

Please bring:

  • A yoga mat to stand on (there are some here available for use)

  • A water bottle

  • Journaling material, if desired

  • Comfortable clothes that are easy to move in

  • A not-too-full belly (same as in yoga)

Meet Dea

Deanna “Dea,” a native Montanan, is a retired hospice RN who while working decades in community end of life care, also earned her MAc in Classical Five Element Acupuncture. She has been a student of the internal arts & wisdom traditions since her teenage years growing up on the south side of Missoula. Now a certified Holden QiGong teacher she specializes in embodied movement for healing, healthy aging and enlivened wellbeing.

Asked why she teaches, her reply will be with a quote from the diaries of Etty Hillesum’s, An Interrupted Life. “Why is there a war? Because I and my neighbor and everyone else do not have enough love. Yet we could fight war and all its excrescences by releasing, each day, the love that is shackled inside us, and giving it a chance to live.” This “unshackling” describes the quintessential nature of a healthy Qi Gong practice.
