Why We Sing:
The Power of Tenderness in a Harsh World

A Song Circle led by Barron Peper

The Voice You Have Is Enough.
Most of us were told at some point — directly or indirectly — that our voice wasn't quite right. Too loud, too quiet, off-key, unwanted. We learned to keep it down. This is an invitation to unlearn that.
A song circle isn't a performance. There's no audition, no judgment, no getting it right. It's a room full of people using their voices together — and discovering what happens when you actually let yourself be heard. What happens, it turns out, is something worth showing up for.

What We'll Do:

We'll sing together. Simple songs, repeated phrases, things you can pick up in one round. No sheet music, no prior experience needed. But we're not just here to make pretty sounds. We're here to drop in — into the body, into whatever's alive in us right now. Joy, grief, exhaustion, aliveness. All of it is welcome. One of my teachers, Aaron Johnson puts it plainly: we do not separate crying from singing. Your full experience belongs here.

I'll hold the space as a guide — offering songs, tracking the energy of the room, and gently nudging us toward the edges where something real lives. That might mean singing a little louder than feels comfortable. It might mean letting a feeling move through you. It might mean just finally letting yourself be in a room and sing. This is especially designed for people who say "I'm not a singer." If that's you — this event was made with you in mind.

What to Expect

  • Songs led call-and-response style — no experience needed

  • Moments of stillness and reflection between songs

  • Space to feel whatever comes up — laughter, tears, and everything between

  • A container that balances safety with genuine aliveness

  • Community — you'll leave knowing the people in the room

Please Bring:

  • Comfortable clothes you can breathe in

  • A water bottle

  • Your voice, exactly as it is

  • A chair if you're uncomfortable sitting on the ground/using bolsters

Meet Barron

Whether I'm designing homes, leading singing circles, or helping people figure out their next big move, my work is always about the same thing: building belonging. As an architect, I know how the built environment shapes how we live and relate. But buildings alone don't create community — people do. So my work spans both: the outer architecture of homes and neighborhoods, and the inner architecture of how we show up for each other. I'm an:

— Award-winning & published architect

— Two-time TEDx Speaker

— Founder of Architecture of Belonging

— BodyMind Maturation Coach (in training)

— Founder of Missoula SINGS (500+ member song community)

— International song leader & trainer
