Surrealism Drawing Workshop

  • Sacred Ally 130 E Broadway St Missoula, MT 59802 (map)

Surrealism Drawing Workshop

A drawing workshop exploring the themes of surrealism as a creative mindfulness practice.

An art workshop to explore the themes of Surrealism. This class will offer practical drawing skills, information on the history of the Surrealism movement, and a fun drawing experience. No prior experience required, just an open mind and a desire to create and explore! There is also no pressure to create any sort of "finished" product. The modern world is very fast paced and goal oriented. The intention of this workshop is to offer education and practical skills, but also to act as a creative practice in mindfulness. An active drawing meditation to explore the subconscious and hidden realms.

What to Expect:

  • A brief art history talk

  • Drawing demo

  • Fun and creative drawing practice/active meditation

  • This is a limited attendance event - there are only 15 total slots available.

Please bring:

  • Dream journal

  • Poetry (your own or that of your favorite poets)

Meet Kaelee

Kaelee Thompson creates fine art and illustrations inspired by equines, nature, and mysticism. Her mixed media process and stylistic approach of magical realism offers both a sense of grounding, and of being transported beyond the material realms. Her intention is for her work to evoke a sense of curiosity towards interconnectivity, as well as compassionate reverence for equines and the natural and mystical worlds.

Kaelee studied illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has worked with horses her whole life. Her calling is to combine these two passions and promote equine welfare. She does this through multiple avenues including original art and print offerings, art classes, equine bodywork, and horsemanship coaching. The themes she explores in her art often correlate to the style in which she relates with horses; an approach rooted in attunement and looking beyond the initial veils. All of her offerings can be found through her business Artful Equus.
